Wirilda House
Centred within a remnant Moonah woodland, this contemporary rustic acreage retreat was designed to sink into, and be part of the natural landscape surrounds.
Each room encompasses views to the heavily treed and undulating landscape. Organic materials and colour palette were chosen to not compete with the landscape, but to harmonise with and create direct connection and cohesion to the natural surrounds. Local limestone was sourced from swimming pool digs and turned into dry stack rock walls for both indoor and outdoor fireplaces that mirror adjacently.
Interior concrete walls and floors connect to the exterior concrete walls and infinity pool, adding modern weight and structure, but also a perfectly imperfect timelessness as the material ages and patinas.
Concrete was chosen for its longevity, flame retardants and thermal mass. Recycled timber was sourced for exposed beams, barn doors and custom furniture whilst sustainably sourced Australian hardwoods were specified for kitchen, laundry, lounge and bathroom joinery.
Custom corner windows in the living room and ensuite frame treed views with abstraction and interest whilst capturing the ultimate natural light.
